Our series of virtual twilight lectures are aimed at students currently studying at Level 3, to complement their studies and/or to provide an insight into studying a range of disciplines at degree level.

The English Literature twilight lecture delivered by Dr Justin Baillie is entitled 'American Fictions and National Identity'. The American literature of the twentieth century is a central expression of the developing national identity of the United States. This talk will consider landmark texts including The Great Gatsby, The Grapes of Wrath and Beloved by Toni Morrison in relation to the diverse American experience they document.
