This virtual taster session is suitable for students studying A Level Physics and Mathematics with a predicted grade B in both subjects, and an interest in studying Physics at University.

Join us for this interactive session and get a flavour of what life as a physics student is like. Dr Matthew Malek will begin by introducing the fascinating concepts of particle physics in a mini-lecture.

After a quick break, take part in an interactive workshop exploring the ATLAS experiment at CERN, and identify your own particles from the data.

Then to finish off the session, there will be a chance for you to find out more about being a physics student at the University of Sheffield, as you take part in a Q&A. You will have the chance to talk to some of our current undergraduate students, a member of our admissions team, and a careers expert, who will all be on hand to answer any queries you might have about studying physics at university.

12.30pm - 12.45pm : Log in and get comfortable
12.45pm - 1.00pm :Welcome and introductions to the University (Prof. Paul Crowther)
1.00pm - 1.30: Particle Physics mini-lecture (Dr Matthew Malek)
1.30pm - 1.45pm: Comfort break
1.45pm - 2.45pm: 'Finding Particles at the LHC' workshop (Dr Kristin Lohwasser)
2.45pm - 3.15pm: 'Being a physics student' – Q&A
3.15pm: Closing remarks
