Herpes simplex encephalitis is caused by the herpes virus invading the brain, and leads to atrophy or deterioration of the medial temporal lobe structures. If left untreated, herpes simplex encephalitis can be fatal. After treatment from the acute stage, survivors can be left with memory and executive difficulties, and emotional changes. This session will explore the pathophysiology and long-term consequences on encephalitic.
