For student groups in Years 10, 11, Sixth Form and Further Education colleges

LJMU Journalism at our Liverpool Screen School is delighted to invite students and teachers to its third ‘Inside News’ day, in partnership with BBC Young Reporter. Building on the success of our first joint venture in 2019, this event will help young people to develop critical thinking and digital literacy that will help them navigate online news and disinformation, think about the news and its role in society and try out some journalistic techniques.

It will also offer an opportunity to find more out about what it is like to be a journalist, and to meet some of those already working in the industry. This opportunity will be of interest to not only potential journalism students, but those with an interest in news, current affairs, and the wider media industry.

Participants will have the chance to:
• Take part in an interactive ‘Inside News’ workshop with specialist BBC trainers.

• Get involved in smaller, ‘breakout’ workshops, developing skills such as how to develop a podcast, how to write a complex story in just one line – or experience the challenges of life as a TV, radio or newspaper news editor.

• Learn about what it takes to achieve a career in the media and get the chance to quiz journalists from the BBC and other news outlets about how they got 'their break'.

• Take a tour of some of LJMU’s newsrooms, TV studio and radio production facilities.
