This event focuses on the roles of different professionals that are involved in some way in the ‘refugee crisis’, supporting people to start their new lives. The day is based on Ali’s story, a refugee who was forced to flee Afghanistan with his family when the Taliban came into power.
Every year thousands of families fleeing danger, poverty or other crises in their country make the journey to the UK with the aim of starting a new life. Given its prevalence as a current topic in the media, the refugee crisis is an area that warrants further attention.
Throughout the day students will experience interdisciplinary workshops linked to a number of different professions including mental health nursing, psychology, housing, youth and family work, policing and social work.
The 3 workshops students will experience over the day pick up on the professionals who Ali and others like him might encounter and the different support services that they offer.
Through the event we aim to create a safe and brave space to discuss this important issue and to showcase the career pathways that support people who find themselves in this situation. This is a great opportunity to find out more about careers that change lives.
This event will be of particular interest to students studying level 3 health and social care and social science subjects.
