How can people in poor countries make use of new technologies?

What should be the priorities in advancing global progress? People often assume development efforts must start with very basic things, such as food and shelter. But what if new technology, such as mobile phones, could improve the opportunities for fulfilling these basic needs? This talk reveals some flaws in how we tend to think about poor regions of the world, using both statistics and stories to build a case for mobile technology as an engine of development.
