Session time: 12.45-13.30

Reality TV shows like ‘The Apprentice’ attract audiences by placing pressure on contestants and encouraging conflict – making them fun to watch but poor representations of everyday business realities. Unfortunately, this means that being interested in business can look like a cut-throat activity only for the loudest and bossiest.

Yet research tells a very different story. Studies on motivation, workplace wellbeing and shareholder return lead to the conclusion it takes quite different qualities to be a good manager, design good jobs and build sustainable businesses. Join this session to hear what really gets good performance from workers and makes organisations run smoothly.

Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures.

Suitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying, or with a possible interest in business, economics and related disciplines.

The IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered prior to the event.
