Full event details

The 1948 currency reform is often seen as the starting point of West Germany's so-called 'Economic Miracle' and as such has an almost mythical status in the country's history. This masterclass will explain how and why the myth came about and explore aspects of the less glamorous side of things. It will also show how the reform had a significant impact on the early Cold War, especially the Berlin Blockade.

After a short introductory lecture which will provide context and background, students will work in small groups to analyse contemporary sources. This will help the students to understand sources and how to analyse them critically, before the findings are summarised at the end of the masterclass.

Schools will be limited to 5 places for this class. Individual bookings can be made by students in Years 12 and 13.
