Full event details

This event is for Year 12 students who want to find out more about pursuing further study or careers in Technology or Business. We will be holding taster sessions in the following subjects:

Business Management
Computing
Games Development

Please note that teachers are expected to remain with their students throughout the day wherever possible (Especially during Computing and Games sessions.)

Information about what you will do in our taster sessions:

Business Management - In this session you will have a tour of our Atrium and Innovation labs before splitting into 2 groups to complete 2 sessions. One session is called Strategy: Is it just a game plan? This taster session looks at how strategy actually works and whether it’s as simple as playing a game or a system. We take a look at how to manage conflict and whether there is such a thing as a strategic disagreement. The other session is called Digital Innovation: With most of our communications in modern society being digital we use this interactive workshop to come up business ideas that utilise the digital market. You’ve all seen the videos on Tiktok.. ‘Be mortgage free at 25 and work from anywhere in the world’… This creative session comes up with ideas to make that possible.

Computing - In this session you will be heading off to our digitech centre at BT Martlesham to explore all the areas of computing.

Games Development - This session is split into two waves; firstly you will tweak and refine a third-person shooter game within the Unity game engine. You will receive hands-on game development experience by thrusting into Unity and producing engaging gameplay. Secondly, ypu will all participate in a Street Fighter II tournament and discover the core competencies of a Game Designer. You will analyse the game's core game loop and expose the behavioural and psychological mechanisms that underpin its design. This session assumes no coding experience!
