UCL Horizons

Over the course of 16 weeks, participants take part in fun maths activities online, learn tips to enhance their study skills and get support in the form of online mentoring from a current UCL student.

Participation in Horizons is arranged through schools in the first instance. A teacher completes an application form and an authorised member of school staff signs a data sharing agreement. This is so we can effectively evaluate the impact of Horizons on participants’ attainment. Teachers then nominate 10-30 students based on the eligibility criteria listed below and encourage their pupils to complete the enrolment process and engage with the programme. Apart from attainment data collection at the end of year 10 and the end of year 11, no additional support from schools is required.

As Horizons is a Widening Participation initiative, we ask teachers to nominate students who meet the following criteria:

• Eligible for Pupil Premium or Free School Meals
• Have a current working at grade of 4-5 in maths

Please note UCL Horizons is only open to UK state schools. We ask for a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 30 eligible students in order for a school to take part.
