In this live interactive history session - which we are running as part of Black History Month - we will be joined by Dr Nicholas Grant, Associate Professor at University of East Anglia (UEA), who will explore 'South Africa: Women and The Anti-Apartheid Movement'.
Session time: Tuesday 10 October, 11:10-11:55
The struggle against apartheid was one of the most significant movements for human rights in the twentieth century. At every stage, women were at the forefront of protests to end white supremacist rule in South Africa.
This session will explore these contributions. Focusing on the anti-apartheid movement in the 1950s, it will examine how a multi-racial alliance of women challenged the race, gender and class inequalities that were integral to the apartheid system.
The session will develop skills and approaches to support students in their current studies and future aspirations.
Suitable for: Key Stage 5, and equivalent, students studying or with an interest in studying History and related subjects and/or are taking part as part of Black History Month. Teachers and members of school staff, as always, are welcome too and participants can join as individuals from school/college or home, or as a group from school/college.
