Join our interactive session and get a flavour of what life is like as a psychology student at the University of Sheffield. Experience a taster lecture exploring the mental processes that underpin addiction, how we research it, and how we can help improve care and support for those affected.
The Psychology of Addiction.
Addiction is a difficult problem faced by many in our society and can lead to devastating outcomes for both the sufferer and those around them. But why do some people seem more prone to addiction than others? And, with addictions centring around things as varied as gambling and drugs, to food and shopping, can there really be a common psychological mechanism underpinning them all? Join Professor Matt Field, an expert in the psychology of addiction, for this lecture exploring how addiction starts and what we can do to better help people who suffer with it. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to chat with Matt, to hear more about his research and the modules he teaches on. Matt is also the department’s Director of Recruitment and will be happy to answer any admissions-related questions. Additionally, you’ll hear from some of our current students, giving you a chance to find out more about being a psychology student at the University of Sheffield, and where a degree in psychology can take you.
