Quantum Physics & Quantum Technologies

Quantum mechanics was invented in the 1920s to explain the behaviour of atoms. It was incredibly successful in describing observed phenomena with great precision, but when it comes to what quantum physics actually tells us about Nature, there is still no full consensus. This has not stopped scientists working to develop an entirely new form of technologies, called “quantum technologies” that will revolutionise computing, sensing and communication.
This talk will lift a tip of the veil, and give you an idea what we are up to.

When: Tuesday 28th May - 4.30pm - 5.50pm

Age Group: Year 12 and Year 13

Itinerary: 4.30pm: Welcome and settling in
4.35pm: Introduction to the department
4.45pm: Subject taster - Becoming an Expert
5.25pm: Q&A on the subject taster
5.35pm: Q&A with current students
5.50pm: Next steps and finish
