Students will be invited to participate in an interactive session which will give them a taste of the multidisciplinary nature of this subject, and the active learning approach they can expect to receive while studying for a BA Childhood, Youth and Education degree at Coventry University. The content can be adapted to meet the needs and interests of particular groups.
Available options:
‘Do you want to play?’
In this interactive workshop we will explore the meaning and importance of play for the development and well-being of children and young people.
You will participate in games, activities and discussions to explore:
· How and why children play;
· The significance of play for learning;
· How play has changed over time and the implications for children.
Schools for the 21st century
The basic model of schooling has remained the same for 150 years whilst the world has changed profoundly. Key questions we will consider in this session are:
· How might these spaces for children and young people be redesigned to meet their needs?
· How effectively do schools prepare children and young people for their future lives in a technologically advanced and rapidly changing society?
You will work collaboratively to develop and present a proposal for a school for the 21st century.
Global Childhoods
Exploring children’s experiences in a range of global contexts provides an opportunity to consider two key questions:
· What do we mean by a ‘good’ childhood?
· To what extent is childhood an experience shared by children in different parts of the world?
In this session we will be examining and comparing international case studies of children’s lived experiences. We will discuss children’s rights and how these can be advanced and promoted in global contexts.
We are also able to develop and deliver sessions related to school/college curricula. Please enquire for more information.
