Available sessions
Poetry:
This poetry session will focus on creating free-form poetry that reflects on student identity. By examining our identity and how this frames our perception of the world, we will create poetry that explores issues relevant to societal perceptions of race, gender, sexuality, and belief, promoting a more accepting and diverse society.
Short Story:
This session will look at the most common approach to storytelling, the hero’s journey, and examine why this structure works so well, and how it can be used to create compelling and engaging narratives. We will look at novel formatting, and why this important tool helps convey meaning to readers, ensuring that their reading experience is not interrupted, and they remain within the world we have created.
Screenwriting:
This session will look at how to write a screenplay and what makes this style of writing so unique. We’ll explore the craft of dialogue, and how to write dialogue in an authentic way, considering organic discourse and how to avoid overcomplicating character speech. We’ll also look at what defines a good character, and how to craft a strong antagonist.
Video Games:
This session will explore storytelling in video games. We’ll look at what makes interactive storytelling so unique and engaging and look at the way player input can guide narrative choices. We’ll discuss the gaming industry and look at how stories are driven by a collaborative approach that unifies the vision of multiple creative roles.
