Newman University is a single campus university based in Birmingham, founded in 1968. We have two Faculties: the Faculty of Education (FED) and the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies (FASPS).
Originally founded as a teacher training college, Newman University has an enviable reputation for its Initial Teacher Education programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our experienced tutors and good relationships with schools throughout the West Midlands ensure high quality education.
The FED also offers Early Childhood Education and Care and Studies in Primary Education single honours degrees. The FASPS offers undergraduate courses in Accounting; Business; Computer Science; Criminology; Counselling; Drama; English; Health and Social Care; History; Law; Liberal Arts; Mathematics; Psychology; Social Science; Sport; Theology and Philosophy; Working with Children, Young People and Families; Youth and Community Work.
Every undergraduate degree at Newman University involves a compulsory work placement. This is usually carried out in the 2nd year of the degree and is a key factor in the high employment rate of our graduates. The majority of our 3yr degrees are offered as a 4 year degree incorporating a foundation year. This enables those who are traditionally unable to access degree an alternative route into beginning and ultimately gaining an honours degree.
