Introduction to Salford

The University of Salford is located less than two miles from the city centre of Manchester in North West England. We offer a wide range of degree courses at Salford and our university is leading in areas such as health, media, energy, and the built environment. Our 20,000 students contribute enormously to the local economy and the courses they study on are designed with employment in mind, helping them and the economy obtain real-world skills. And of course, students have all the opportunities that Manchester – one of the UK’s fastest growing cities – has to offer, right on our doorstep.

Recruitment and Outreach at Salford - Supporting your events

We have a dedicated Recruitment & Outreach Team who work in partnership with schools, colleges, and careers services, raising awareness of Higher Education and the University itself. Our team are happy to support talks, fairs and workshops for years 12 and 13. We can tailor a range of outreach activities at your sixth form or College to the needs of your students, to help support them make important decisions about their future Higher Education and career choices. Our goal is to deliver impartial information, advice, and guidance, to ensure that students and their key influencers are aware of the choices that are available and that students are applying for the right courses for them. Regional Officers

We have dedicated team members who are based in Greater London and the South East, and another who works exclusively across Yorkshire. Our Regional Officers provide activities and tailored presentations for careers advisors, teachers, and students outside of the North West, so do get in touch if you have students interested in moving away for University.


Attending your University & Careers Fairs

If your school or college are planning to hold an event, we would be delighted attend and talk to your students and their parents/carers about the opportunities offered at the University of Salford. We can deliver any of our Higher Education presentations at your event as well.

We also attend a number of national UCAS Conventions and UK Higher Education Fairs throughout the year. They are an excellent opportunity for you and your students to meet us, ask any questions about our degree programmes and university life. Coffee and Catch-Up Virtual Sessions

We host virtual sessions that will give you an opportunity to be updated on specific academic subjects at Salford University, admissions, and entry requirements and general UCAS information. These are designed as working lunch meetings that will give you an opportunity to ask academics and professional service staff questions relating to Higher Education in a relaxed and informal setting.

Teacher and Advisor Conference

Our free yearly conferences aim to provide teachers and advisors with updates on changes to our courses and campus at Salford and essential information on the UCAS application process so that you can best support your students. We offer delegates CPD workshops, the opportunity to select from subject presentations, and other services from across the University, as well as a networking lunch so that you can share best practice with other colleagues supporting students with their Higher Education decisions. We currently hold our free conferences in Manchester, Yorkshire and London. Providing timely information and advice can be hugely beneficial to Year 12 and Year 13 students as they make important decisions about their future. We have created our range of talks to inform and encourage students, aiding the transition into Higher Education. Examples of some of the talks we are able to provide are set out below:

/ Introduction to Higher Education

Choosing the right university and course is an important decision but it can be difficult to know where to start with over 37,000 courses in the UK to choose from. Our introduction to HE talk will provide students with information on the benefits of university study, how to choose a course, finance, accommodation and the UCAS process.

/ Personal Statements

Hints and Tips The Personal Statement is the one chance a student has to show passion for their subject area when applying to universities. Our hints and tips presentation followed by a facilitated workshop provides students with good and bad examples along with a step-by-step guide to structuring a Personal Statement that makes an impact!

/ Student Finance & Budgeting

Our Student Finance & Budgeting talk encourages students to begin thinking about the outgoing costs of student living and how to successfully manage their finance throughout a degree. We will cover areas such as tuition fees and student loans along with details of the scholarships available at Salford.

/ Student Life; Expectation vs Reality

Reflecting on their time at Salford, current undergraduate students discuss their personal experiences at the University, talk about their decision making process and transition to Higher Education.

/ Study Skills

This Study Skills presentation will help students to develop learning strategies to boost revision and to provide essential preparation for exams. In the extended workshop students will be introduced to the VARK model that will help them to determine what style of learning they prefer out of the four main categories: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinaesthetic.

/ Bespoke Subject Specific Talks

/ Applying to University & the UCAS process

We know that applying for university can seem overly complicated and daunting to some. This short talk will help listeners to find out why there’s nothing to worry about. We’ll introduce you to the whole process of applying to university through UCAS and beginning to think about writing your personal statement as part of the application process.


We are happy to welcome school and college groups onto the University Campus to provide an insight in to University life. We aim to make these visits bespoke events to fit the requirements of your students and can arrange subject specific taster sessions as part of the day.
