Event Summary
This webinar is hosted by Jon Cheek, the Founder and Director of UniTasterDays. Guidance is provided for students to help them make good choices when considering university. The guest speaker for this event is Dr Julia Peck, the Academic Subject Leader in Photography at the University of Gloucestershire.
An introduction to studying photography at university Julia explains how a photography degree is not just about making images, but it aims to build your creativity to ensure that you develop skills for the future.
This process starts at the very beginning of your university journey, where you will meet a diverse range of students and staff who you will work with as you progress in this field.
Photography at degree level is about learning new processes, concepts and engaging with experiments. Julia talks about the range of technical, practical and social skills you will gain on this course, which are essential for you to be a photographer. She goes on to speak about how to market yourself for employers, and the industry contacts you will be able to access to gain work experience.
When choosing a university it is important to look into the facilities that are available, explains Julia. She speaks about the range of modules on offer, the different ways you will be assessed on the course and opportunities to specialise in your chosen area.
Finally, Julia talks about the variety of ways you can collaborate with others on projects, and the balance of practice and theory on the course.
