Sentencing and Society: Public Attitudes and Awareness
In this session, we will explore your perceptions of sentences in specific examples of criminal activity in England and Wales and consider how effective Sentencing Council outreach efforts are at explaining the inner workings of the criminal justice system to the public.
Resettlement and Rehabilitation
This session will allow students will be challenged to create a release plan and ensure the offender is supported on their release from prison and the first six months in the community.
The War on Drugs and Criminalisation
This session will explore the impacts of current policies on communities, public health, and the criminal justice system, and compare the UK's approach to other European countries experimenting with decriminalisation.
When Justice Fails: Miscarriages of Justice
This session will examine the causes of wrongful convictions in the UK, the role of forensic evidence, and the challenges faced by those fighting to prove their innocence in a system designed to uphold guilty verdicts.
Coming of Age: Consent and Responsibility Across Cultures
This session will explore the reasoning behind these age limits, compare them to other countries, challenge their application, and examine recent debates about raising the age of criminal responsibility in light of modern understanding of adolescent brain development.
