Friday 8th March, 10am - 11:30am @ Pop Recs Sunderland

Different influential women who have a connection to Sunderland, or have had a positive impact on the City are chosen each year to be the Rebel Women.

This year's Rebel Women are:

  • Lucy Bronze, footballer for FC Barcelona and England. Bronze was born in the north-east and played for Sunderland Women's team at the beginning of her career.
  • Elizabeth Woodcock, born in Sunderland in 1752. Woodcock left substantial money to charities in Sunderland in her will. One of which was Sunderland Dispensary, which went on to be Sunderland Royal Infirmary.
  • Mary Talbot, Freelance Writer from the region. Talbot still lives in Sunderland.

This event is a flash fiction workshop which will then be used as a springboard to set up a project within the student's school, or raise awareness for an existing project.

Students will be encouraged to think about how they can set up a charity within their school to support their peers – possibly a food bank or hygiene bank, using the inspirations of the Rebel Women of Sunderland.

This event will be held in Pop Recs, Sunderland and spaces are limited so please book on early to avoid disappointment.
