Participating in the Summer School series is an ideal opportunity to enhance your personal statements and showcase your freshly acquired skills in a vibrant creative portfolio.

As part of the series, we’ll be giving you an official digital certificate of attendance that you can proudly feature in your portfolio.

To receive your official Norwich Summer School 2024 certificate, you will need to:

Attend a minimum of 3 workshops from the series, or watch the recorded workshops
Submit outcomes from 3 workshops
Deadline for submission is Monday 23 September

 

Week 1 – Designing Your Personal Pavilion
Wednesday 24 July | 10.00 – 11.30am (BST)

Join BA (Hons) Architecture graduate, David Wiley, for a workshop exploring the discipline of architecture and the role of the architect in the formation of space.

Through hands-on activities and insightful discussions we will unlock our imaginations to explore the language of design in relation to architectural pavilions.

We’ll also investigate the practicalities of curating design projects.  

Week 2 – Making the User Journey
Wednesday 31 July | 3.00 – 4.30pm (BST)

Join BA (Hons) VFX graduate Jose Fernandez for a workshop exploring Figma for beginners to learn the basics of the programmes interface and tools.

During the workshop, you will replicate a simple mobile app screen whilst discovering how to create shapes, add text, and customise elements.

This will be a hands-on experience and practical tips to kickstart a journey in UI design.

Week 3 – Capturing Your Story
Wednesday 7 August | 10.00 – 11.30am (BST)

BAFTA-nominated director and Norwich BA (Hons) Film and Moving Image Production graduate Ella Glendining will share her experience of telling personal stories across documentary and fiction.

Participants will discuss aspects of their own lives they may want to include in their work and write their own short personal story or poem. There’ll also be conversations about mental health and working on personal projects with cast and crew.

Week 4 – Pushing Poses in Animation
Wednesday 14 August | 3.00 – 4.30pm (BST)

Join BA Hons (Hons) Animation graduate Connor O’Brien for this workshop exploring the role of an animator.

As an animator, acting is a core part of the job, we need to learn how to tell a story in a visual sense. A big part of this is through creating appealing poses.

The skills you’ll develop for this are beneficial across all mediums and most stages of production!

Week 5 – Innovative Repeat Pattern
Wednesday 21 August | 10.00 – 11.30am (BST)

Ever wondered how repeat patterns are created? Join BA (Hons) Fashion graduate, Amy Olivia Parish, in this innovative workshop.

Using traditional craft skills (drawing painting and photography) combined with the Adobe suite, you’ll creative innovative unique pattern designs that could be applied to a range of creative projects from Fashion to Games Design.

Week 6 – Illustration
Wednesday 28 August | 3.00 – 4.30pm (BST)

Join BA (Hons) Illustration graduate, Leanda Hughes, for this workshop exploring the relationship between illustration and printmaking.

Taking a scene from everyday life, you’ll work your an idea through each step of the process, turning a sketch into a fully formed print.
