Session time: Tuesday 19 November, 11.10-11.55
In this Literature/Theatre session, Dr Ioana Szeman, a leading academic in the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing at University of East Anglia, will run an interactive talk for students on A Doll’s House (Ibsen) – Contemporary Production & Audience.
This session focuses on three recent theatre productions of Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House,” including a Broadway production. We will discuss how each production aimed to engage contemporary audiences and make the play relevant to them.
You will read short sections of the play and discuss each production’s distinctive staging, from casting choices to stage design, in relation to main themes of the play.
You will gain insight into how staging shapes the meaning of a play, as well as a new angle of textual analysis.
This workshop is designed for A-Level students, and equivalent, to undertake as part of a classroom exercise or as individuals.
Suitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying, or with a possible interest in studying, Literature/Theatre and related disciplines. Student groups as well as students and teachers joining individually are very welcome.
