Full event details

In this talk, we'll look at the remarkable growth of Korean new wave popular culture (known as 'Hallyu') across the late 20th and early 21st centuries. By looking more closely at the Korean television, film and music industries, we will consider how Hallyu is situated within the broader development of East Asian mass culture. Through close analysis of comparative textual examples, this talk also addresses the often contentious parallels made between the hybridised aspects of Hallyu and other cultural texts from both the East and West.
