This online session will give you a feel for what it's like to study French at university. You'll hear a taster lecture by one of our academics in French; there'll be time for questions afterwards; and you'll be able to ask staff and current undergraduates about studying French at Sheffield.

The Italian phrase traduttori traditori is usually taken to refer to the impossibility of a perfect translation, with the translator always somehow a ‘traitor’ to the original text and its context. This talk explores the importance of good translation, and how a translator’s hubris can lead to misrepresentations in the history of decolonisation, and even get murderers off the hook.
