Short Session Delivered online
Dr George Bodie, historian of contemporary Germany and the global Cold War from the Department of History at Goldsmiths, University of London, presents ‘The Cold War Then and Now’.
Even prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it had become common for commentators to claim that today we are living through a “new Cold War.” But what is a Cold War? Perhaps surprisingly, historians continue to disagree regarding what the phrase means: for some, it was a series of “hot” conflicts which led to millions of deaths; others claim it was a period of remarkable peace.
This session will explore some of the answers to the question, as well as attempting to shed light on our current global predicament by understanding the relationship between the Cold War past and contemporary international relations.
