This one-day Taster Day at Royal Holloway is for anyone who wants to learn more about what a degree in Physics and Astronomy can offer you.
You will learn how we unveil the mysteries of the world around us, investigate the building blocks of matter, use super-cooled quantum fluids to create Quantum Computers, study black holes with gravitational waves, and measure the Universe's expansion rate.
You will attend lectures from world-leading experts, engage in a Q&A with current physics students, chat with our admissions tutors to ask about the UCAS process and experience our inclusive personal tutoring. In addition, we will conduct tours of our state-of-the-art research facilities and give you time to discover life at our beautiful campus.
You will also learn how your degree will prepare you for an exciting future. While many Physics graduates go on to do cutting-edge fundamental research, the skills you learn will also enable you to enter a wide range of possible career pathways. The Institute of Physics' Workforce Skills project finds that 1 in 20 UK jobs need the skills you will learn. Understanding physics is critical not only in advancing research in science but also in building, manufacturing, investigating, regulating, analysing, and meeting many more needs of commerce and society. Moreover, many physics-demanding jobs are highly paid (e.g. flight engineers, data scientists, and financial experts).
We look forward to welcoming you to our Department. Should you have any queries before attending, please reach out to [email protected].
This taster course is open to students in Year 11 (GCSE or equivalent year), Year 12, Year 13 (final year A Level/IB students) and anyone who is thinking of starting their undergraduate studies in September 2026.
