Full event details

Have you ever wanted to see inside the human body? In this lecture, three academics from the University of Nottingham's Faculty of Science will explain how they use imaging techniques as part of their research.

Faculty of Science Christmas Lecture speakers:

Sally Eldeghaidy, Associate Professor in Nutritional Neuroimaging, School of Biosciences
Karthik Bharath, Professor of Statistics, School of Mathematical Sciences
David Scurr, Principal Research Fellow, School of Pharmacy
Our three speakers will explain how they use different imaging techniques, including MRI, geometry and statistics for shape and image analysis, and OrbiSIMS mass spectroscopy to demonstrate the connection between our guts and our brains, help to diagnose brain tumours, and show if an anti-ageing cosmetic is actually absorbed by the skin. Find out how they use these techniques as part of their research to help develop strategies to improve human health and wellbeing, and other real-world applications.

Festive refreshments will be served after this lecture, and there will be an opportunity to see what some of these foods look like under the microscope, as well as live Raman imaging of a nanosized Christmas tree made out of gold and silicon, with the team from the University of Nottingham Nanoscale and Microscale Research Centre (nmRC).
