University event offered by SOAS University of London
Short Session
This masterclass introduces Anthropology as a discipline that is relevant today more than ever. Going over its brief history and methodologies, students are not only introduced to the subject but are encouraged to think of the ways in which such methods could be a useful tool to investigate things in the contemporary world which they are interested in.
Common cultural archetypes of the psychologist or biologist place them firmly in proximity of Freudian couches and industrial laboratories with white-coats and microscopes. A Google search of the term ‘anthropology’ produces a flood of imagery portraying skulls, masks, evolutionary queues of monkey-to-man, along with the lone white anthropologists.
On Campus Masterclasses are subject based and are three hours long. They consist of a topic-based lecture and interactive activity, led by a SOAS academic. There is also a campus tour and a workshop on Higher Education led by Student Ambassadors.
