The Global Sustainable Development (GSD) Department at the University of Warwick is delighted to invite year 11 and 12 students to enter our 2025 competition. This is an opportunity to engage with a topic outside of the curriculum and provide insight into the type of thought-provoking issues involved in the study of Global Sustainable Development.
What is the competition?
Students must choose one of the questions we have set and submit a response. Since the competition was first established, we have expanded the types of entries that can be submitted to include videos, photos, podcasts, and poetry, as well as more traditional essay responses. In previous years, we have received a wide variety of responses from schools across the country (and we receive international entries too). We are always impressed by the quality of the submissions, in times in line with what we would expect of first-year university students! Find out more about the competition.
2025 Competition Questions
- Youth and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's): Are young people the real drivers of change?
- How can creative industries such as TV and Film try to implement the SDGs? (You can focus on multiple SDGs or one)
- Many influential figures deny that climate change is real. How would you respond to climate change deniers?
Who is the competition for?
The competition is open to all year 11 and 12 students (school pupils aged between 15 and 17 years), no matter which subjects they are currently studying.
How can your students get involved?
Entrants can be individual students or groups of students from the same school. Each submission will need the permission and support of a member of your teaching staff. This is to ensure that the submitted work is the students’ own and has not previously been submitted elsewhere.
How to enter?
Entry to the competition closes at midnight on Sunday 4th May 2025.Find out more about how to enter.
What are the prizes?
UK-based shortlisted entrants will be invited to an on-campus awards ceremony hosted by the GSD Department at the University of Warwick on 5th July, where we will announce the UK winners. International entrants will be invited to a virtual event on 12th July, where we will announce the international winners. During both events, shortlisted applicants will hear from members of staff from the GSD Department and our current students too. There will be prizes for the winners.
