About Bournemouth University

At Bournemouth University, our courses are crafted alongside leading industry experts, passionate about their subjects and your learning. Our approach of integrating our globally recognised research and industry practice means our degrees are designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to pursue your passion.

We have over 19,000 students from all over the world and are focused on providing the best campus experience possible, while keeping you safe at all times. Our great teaching is complemented by industry-standard facilities and support. We offer fantastic collaborative working spaces. Laptops you can borrow by the hour.

We recognise your potential and will support you and give you the opportunity to gain real-world experience through placements, volunteering, and collaborative projects. And with over 100 clubs, societies and sports – and the opportunity to be part of our global BU community studying by the sea – that’s the difference of a degree from Bournemouth University.

Our courses are designed with your employability in mind. Securing work and professional experience as part of your degree can make all the difference in the competitive job market. We’ve got industry contacts and career-enhancing opportunities you’ll need to stand out. We work closely with employers, practitioners and professional organisations. We pride ourselves on supporting our students to gain real experience and develop the skills employers seek. Our outstanding academics come from across the world. They are specialists in their field and enthusiastic about their subject, and many are at the forefront of current research.

Starting from the first week, academics often bring in guest lecturers and employers, working with many individual service users, carers and local organisations to contribute to lectures.

You'll have the chance to guide your own development with optional units, work placements, research opportunities and a host of other extracurricular activities. You'll be supported inside and outside of the lecture theatre as you tailor your time at BU to be everything that you want it to be.

Bournemouth town is right on the seafront – the beach is a five-minute walk from the centre. Bournemouth has a friendly metropolitan feel, and you’ll find it has a good mix of department stores and independent boutique shops, along with food from around the world that will be tempting you into bars, restaurants, cafes and coffee shops.

Sand between your toes, time spent with friends, trying new sports and hobbies, making great memories – it’s all here waiting for you.

Information for teachers and careers advisers

Our aim is for as many young people as possible to be aware of their higher education (HE) options and for them to be enthusiastic about the possibility of studying at university.

We know that working closely with educational professionals to help students understand the variety of opportunities available to them is the best way to achieve this.

To help your students make informed decisions about their study routes and careers progression, we have developed an inspiring and engaging programme of activities for primary, secondary and post-16 learners. Our programme of talks, workshops and events can be tailored to your requirements and delivered either on campus or in your school.
