University event offered by University of Huddersfield
Short Session Delivered at your school/college
The natural world appears, to the naked eye, dominated by animals, plants and fungi; however, microscopy and molecular genetics have revealed that most of life's diversity is hidden is microscopic organisms. This lecture will lift the lid on the diversity known to be present in the Tree of Life. Unicellular orgasnisms are now known to have a profound impact on our lives - from our own individual health to the atmosphere of the planet. We will also learn about the closest relatives of animals and show how and when animals evolved from their single-celled ancestors.
The Discover Programme consists of subject-specific lectures and workshops aimed at Year 12 or Year 1 college students, delivered by academics that teach at the University.
These sessions are designed to both complement the curriculum and introduce new subject areas.
