About the University of Sunderland

At the University of Sunderland, we are passionate about engaging with and inspiring pupils and students from all backgrounds. Our Pre and Post-16 teams are here to help and support students, parents and carers, and teachers by providing recruitment and outreach activity that is flexible, accessible and meets everyone’s needs.

We have recently been awarded University of the Year for Social Inclusion by The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, which recognises our commitment to offering inclusive opportunities everywhere from our medical school to our art studios. It also recognises that our staff work hard to raise students’ aspirations and make a positive contribution to economic and social change.

We have a comprehensive programme of presentations and resources that suit every level from primary, secondary, 6th form to college students and those who are returning to learning. They are designed to offer information, advice and guidance to students on their journey through education.

Our presentations cover:

  • University for Me- What is higher education, what is university?
  • Career chasers- what is a degree and how does this link to careers in different job sectors
  • Why university?
  • Resilience
  • Decisions, Decisions- focusing on GCSE options
  • Study Smarter
  • Why Sunderland?
  • What is UCAS?
  • Which university, which course?
  • Degree Apprenticeships

  • Budgeting and Student Finance
  • Personal Statements
  • Interview Skills

Some of the above presentations can be accessed here for use in classrooms and at home and we can arrange for one of the team to deliver these presentations to your students online.

In addition to presentations we are also running online subject specific taster sessions for years 12 and 13. You can sign up to attend as a whole school cohort or as individual students through the event listings below. If we are not running something relevant to your needs below, please do get in touch with us at [email protected] and we can put together something bespoke for your students and can arrange for our academics to host this for you within your timetabled sessions or whenever is most convenient for you.

We look forward to working with you, and always welcome any feedback around our presentations and taster sessions, so please feel free to get in touch via the email address above, we look forward to hearing from you.
