St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) is a top 50 University, and is rated fifth in country for Teaching Quality by the 2024 Good University Guide. SMU is a community where connections are made on every corner and in every classroom. Student Experience is placed in the heart of all the University does, and it is regularly rated amongst the top nationally for student satisfaction, in the top ten of all the 2024 league tables. Developing the individual is our mission. In helping students on their journey to academic excellence we encourage them to recognise their potential and how to be a better version of themselves.

Schools & Colleges Outreach at St Mary’s

The team is responsible for organising and hosting all our on campus undergraduate open days, applicant experience days and academic taster days. As part of our wider event participation we deliver a variety of progression workshops and arrange subject specific seminars, at schools, colleges and St Mary’s. Our aim is to support students in making informed decisions about higher education, from advising and guiding learners through the UCAS application process, to preparing them for life as a university student.

Why St Mary’s?

Teaching is in our DNA. St Mary’s was founded in 1850 to train teachers in educating poor children in London. St Mary’s is just half an hour by train from the heart of London – students have a dynamic, bustling city centre on their doorstep. We also play an active and important part of our local community, which provides a huge number of services and entertainment to suit all students.

98% of our graduates are in employment, vocation or further study following the completion of their studies (HESA 2023)

We want to help students get on the right track to achieve the career they deserve – and we understand that often means more than a good degree. That’s why our Employability Services team supports students before they’ve joined, when they’re here, and once they graduate. From one-to-one careers consultant appointments, careers fairs, our online vacancy system, to our unique and innovative work placement modules, we ensure our students have the knowledge and experience employers are looking for.
